Opsis Photographic is operated by Mike Downing, a highly experienced photographer and multimedia creative with over two decades of experience, in photography, videography, design and teaching up to postgraduate level.
With a background in arts practice, with a commercial sensibility rooted in a love of graphic design, Mike is equally at home with large scale long term exhibited work, or one off portraiture commissions.

Services Include…
Photography
Ranging from one off portrait shoots, multi day events, long term contracted work and large scale project based commissions. Opsis primarily specialise in high resolution digital stills photography but we’re equally happy to work with film up to 5×4 large format. Mike is a specialist in off camera flash and studio practice, offering much more control than working with available light alone.
We can offer print services of an archival, exhibition quality up to A2 sizes, or larger with a lead time. Please see the dedicated page for more information.
Post Production and Retouch
Post production and retouch are an essential part of modern photography, and generally will be incorporated into the costings for a shoot or commission. For more complex work, digital restoration or for projects that are entirely software based, get in touch. Opsis primarily uses Adobe Creative suite packages, Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere.
Design, Layout and Exhibition
Mike has extensive experience in planning, printing and hanging exhibitions as well as working with book layouts, poster and flyer design – the old fashioned way, without generative AI. For larger projects, we can offer a more holistic service without the added expensive of bringing in further external expenditure.
Digitisation and Preservation
Mike specialises in digital preservation and restoration, archiving antique negatives and digitally repairing files. If you have older photographs, you’re interested in preserving or breathing new life into them, we’d be happy to help. Our sister site, PhotoFlux.co.uk is a storefront for historical prints, primarily from glass plate negatives.
